It's no secret that the most successful people are the ones who push the limits and (sometimes) break the rules. So it should come as no surprise that the many of our most successful policyIQ clients are the organizations with users who are trying new things and pushing the limits of the product every day.
Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD) is a worldwide provider of dredging services. I didn't know what that was, either, until I met the team at GLDD. "Dredging" is the process used to create and maintain various types of waterways across the world, such as harbors, rivers, etc. The organization has been around since the 19th century, and has been involved in an impressive number of critical infrastructure projects since that time. While their operations are fascinating (at least to me), it's their back-office creativity in policyIQ that we want to highlight today.
Implementation was a breeze
If you asked Travis Heyer, Manager of Internal Audit at GLDD, how long it takes to implement policyIQ, he will tell you "one week". That's how long it took him and Paul Brauweiler, Resources Global Professionals' consultant, to configure policyIQ and import the existing SOX content to prepare for launch. When Mr. Heyer purchased policyIQ, it was with the intention to use the application to manage the Risks, Controls and Testing for the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance process. (The Quarterly Representation Letter, also planned for initial implementation, would be launched after that initial week of work.) It was an impressive, efficient and remarkably smooth implementation.
But wait, there's more!
After such a smooth start, Mr. Heyer recognized the value that policyIQ was able to offer in the compliance and audit groups, as well as throughout the rest of the organization. Additional processes have been implemented to gather critical information on all spreadsheets used in the preparation of financial reporting, policies and procedures are being communicated, and GLDD has even explored the use of policyIQ to assist in the administration of their contracts.
Foreign Corrupt Practices Act gets its own focus
Perhaps most interestingly, Mr. Heyer has created a section of policyIQ dedicated to capturing all of the critical information related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), a compliance area that has recently become a focus for many organizations. In this FCPA area, GLDD employees and auditors can find policies and procedures, training materials, audit documents and due diligence materials that cover the FCPA process at GLDD.
Throughout the implementation and growth of policyIQ at GLDD, Mr. Heyer has continued to find new ways to bring value to his organization with policyIQ - and we know that he isn't done yet!
